What Kind of Stories Were Depicted in Chengdu Shadow Puppetry a Century Ago?

  四川大学博物馆是国内最早收藏皮影戏实物的博物馆,也是目前拥有清代成都皮影最多的博物馆。这里收藏的皮影“十殿图”是当时成都地区最活跃的高腔灯影戏班“春乐图”的作品,用于川剧演出时舞台布景布置在影幕上。

  The“Ten-Palace Pictures”of shadow
puppetry consist of several scenes of the hell court, hell torture scenes, and life in the mortal world. This is an ancient and traditional way of punishing wrongdoers and promoting righteousness. It explains the fundamental morals that individuals should uphold in the most vivid form.
  这些珍贵的艺术品作为文化遗产保存至今,让我们在光与影的美学探索中,领略更多中国古老民间艺术的魅力。
  Nowadays, these precious artworks, having been preserved as cultural heritage, allow us to explore the aesthetics of light and shadow. This enables us to appreciate a wealth of ancient Chinese folk art.
